Felix Ponce

District 8

Music Teacher. Father. Organizer.

Felix is a dedicated music teacher fighting for equitable music and arts education across Chicago. With a career spanning multiple schools and roles, he has consistently focused on expanding music and arts programs for every student. He believes that all students, including his son, deserve the right to a high-quality public education that includes music, art, and sports.

Music and community

Music education and community service have defined Felix’s career. Currently, he serves as the Director of Bands at Harold L. Richards High School. At Roosevelt University, he works as their band coordinator, building their first Marching and Pep band. Previously he worked at Back of the Yards College Preparatory High School, where he developed a robust music program from the ground up.

Felix has seen the differences students experience between city and suburban schools, and he is running for the school board to ensure every student has equitable educational opportunities, access to robust music and arts programs, and that Chicago students have the same resources as other school districts.
