Yesenia Lopez
District 7
Organizer. Educator. CPS Alum.
Yesenia is a proud product of the Chicago Public School system, graduating from Pickard Elementary and Benito Juárez High School. She is an organizer for social justice and community empowerment, for the last 10 years, she has organized with moms from Telpochcalli Community Education Project to bring education resources to Little Village. Currently, she works for Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias, where she has helped pass laws making Illinois a book-ban-free state.
Rooted in advocacy
Yesenia’s advocacy has been marked by roles focused on advancing equitable public policies and ensuring effective government representation. She previously worked as the Latino Outreach Director for the re-election campaign of Governor JB Pritzker and Lt. Governor Julia Stratton. Through her work with non-profit organizations, she has expanded access to early education, workforce development, and education support in her community.
In Little Village, she has worked alongside educators to implement student and adult programs, including community gardens and peace circles.
